Formby
Formby U3A University of the Third Age The concept was launched in France in 1972, followed by the creation of the International Association of U3As. The idea spread throughout the world. The first British U3A was formed in 1982, there are now more than 167,000 members in some 610 local U3As throughout the UK. Although called a University, no educational qualifications are required or given. Those who teach and those who learn are all members of the University of the Third Age. We are a voluntary organisation where retired or semi-retired people from all walks of life and of all ages, who meet like-minded members to expand their knowledge, share interests or acquire new skills. Men and women with a lifetime of experience, expertise and know-how in professions, occupations or through hobbies are encouraged to form groups and share their knowledge with fellow members. A mutual interest leads to new friendships.
Many Groups meet in members' homes, adding an important social dimension. Formby U3A was formed in March1990 and has grown steadily such that there are now over 1000 members studying more than 50 different subjects in over 95 Groups. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at Holy Trinity Parish Hall at 2.00pm.There maybe occasions when the Hall's capacity [200] may be reached and therefore entrance will be restricted. Also an information meeting is held on the following Thursday morning at the Holy Trinity Church Workshop from 10.30am until 12 noon. Latest Updates 5th August 2009 Diary, Groups and New Groups |
