CYCLING
Over the past few years, the number of U3A members wanting to ride with the group has increased from less than 10 to over 30. As a result, three sub-groups have evolved to meet the different preferences and abilities: the A-group rides at a steady pace and usually includes a hilly section in a ride of up to 40 miles; the B-group likewise rides at a steady pace on a less hilly and shorter route but usually meets the A-group for a café stop; the C-group rides at a gentler pace and displays a preference for alfresco coffee stops.Rides take place every Tuesday, starting at 09.30 from Formby Station Car Park and riders are normally home in time for lunch. From time to time all-day rides are arranged. A weekly email is sent out giving information about the next day’s ride. Safety is of the essence and it is the responsibility of individual riders to ensure that their cycles are fully roadworthy and that they carry with them a small tool kit, a pump and a spare innertube, plus a cycle-lock for security. Whilst we try to avoid main roads, it is strongly recommended that riders wear cycling helmets and hi-vis clothing; day-time lights also assist in making us visible to those road users who would prefer not to see us. | |
